It may occur 5 to 30 times an hour. Apneas are usually measured during sleep over a two-hour period. The severity of apnea is calculated by dividing the number of apneas by the number of hours of sleep, giving an apnea index (AI in apneas per hour). The greater the AI, the more severe the apnea. In severe cases, treatment is required to prevent low blood oxygen (hypoxemia), sleep deprivation and other complications. The most serious complication causes a congestive heart failure.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy is the widely used method to cure sleep apnea. It was initially developed in 1981 by Professor Colin Sullivan at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. The modern CPAP devices are considered the best non surgical treatment method to get relief from snoring and sleep apnea. The CPAP machines deliver air into the airway through a scientifically designed nasal CPAP mask or full face CPAP mask. The flow of air maintains adequate pressure while a person breathes in, to keep the airway open.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machines (often known as CPAP machines) help to provide a sound and comfortable sleep to sleep apnea patients. When a person has obstructive sleep apnea, he or she stops breathing during sleep. This is caused by a blockage in the airway, at the back of the throat. The CPAP machine is used to keep the airway open by increasing the air pressure in the throat.

Inappropriate and poorly maintained CPAP machines can cause a lot of problems like dry nose, sore throat and nose bleeding. The mask may create an irritation on the face or in the eyes. It is therefore very important to ensure that CPAP machines and accessories are bought after thorough examination and are well kept and replaced periodically.

CPAP accessories require regular replacement as long term use may lead to wear and tear of certain parts of CPAP machines. Indeed, many CPAP users don’t realize that many supplies associated with sleep therapy are disposable. Masks, air tubes, filters and headgear have a limited life span and must be replaced from time to time. CPAP devices are portable but care should be taken to ensure that sufficient replacement parts are always available to help the machine function in a normal way at any time. CPAP masks get loose after continual use and ill fitting masks cause obvious problems in the therapy. The mask should therefore be replaced after every 3 months. CPAP headgear helps to connect the mask securely to the head and the frequency of replacement should be between 3 to 6 months.

Air tubes in the CPAP machines, that get visibly dirty or torn out must also be replaced once every month. Chin Strap Pads act as cushions and protect the face from inconvenience and pain caused due to prolonged use of CPAP masks. These should therefore be comfortable enough and should be replaced periodically as per the condition of the strap. Also, it is necessary to change or clean the CPAP filters to keep them hygienic and flawless.

Basically there are two types of filters – disposable filters which should be replaced on a regular basis and non-disposable filters, (also known as pollen filters) which can be washed and reused. There are separate CPAP mask accessories designed for each mask type and model.

CPAP replacement parts in GTA (Toronto Area) can be bought in the four regional municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel and York. CPAP clinic provides a wide array of CPAP replacement parts in GTA (Toronto Area). You may choose from various models produced by the top brands like KEGO Philips Respironics, Fisher &Paykel Healthcare, Res Med and Covidien.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP masks come in different shapes and sizes and are to be chosen according to the shape of contours of the face and personal comfort level. The full face masks spreads over the user’s nose and mouth while delivering the pressurized air through the tube. They are ideal for people who breath through mouth or through nose as well as the mouth. Nasal CPAP mask may lose pressure if the user opens his or her mouth during sleep which renders the whole treatment in effective. Since full face mask cover the entire mouth area, the user does not have to worry about the pressure that is intended to hold the airway open, with air flowing out through the mouth.

Full face mask regulate the air towards the mouth without forcing it straight into the nose of the user. In this way, they prevent the harmful impact of constant air flow pressure heading directly into the nasal passage and prevents potential nose bleeding or dryness and itching in the nose during the therapy.

The only basic handicap of a Full face mask is its rather

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy is considered the most effective treatment for sleep apnea . The patients wear a mask that is attached to a pump in the CPAP machine. This machine forces air into nasal passages at pressures adequately high to overcome any obstruction in the airway and stimulate normal breathing. The airway pressure delivered into the upper airway is continuous while breathing in and breathing out.

CPAP devices and accessories need to be frequently replaced to ensure that they function properly and do not cause any discomfort to the user. Some private insurance companies also cover replacement costs as per their policies.

We enlist below some of the most common CPAP accessories in Toronto :

Nasal Mask Cushions: The CPAP mask which is made of hard plastic usually lasts for 1 year. The mask includes a soft cushion made of silicon, which helps prevent air leakage around the mask. This cushion should be replaced when it fails to seal the mask against the face.

CPAP Headgear and Chin straps: The headgear and chin straps keep the mask adjusted while sleeping. The elastic material used in these, helps them to stretch out of shape or fray around closures. Proper cleaning of the headgear helps them to last longer and they usually last from three to six months.

CPAP Tubing: The mask is attached to the CPAP machine with a plastic tubing. When humidifier is used, some bacteria may build up inside the tube and therefore it should be carefully and regularly washed to prevent respiratory infections.

Filters: The in line, disposable bacteria filter is attached between the CPAP machine and tubing to provide post-machine bacteria filtering. These bacteria/viral filters utilize a non conducive and hydrophobic filter media for proper filtration.

CPAP Humidifier: A lot of dry air can irritate the airway. It can also cause a swelling and narrow down the airway, affecting pressure requirements. Humidifiers in CPAP devices add moisture to the air from the machine.

CPAP Pillow: CPAP pillows help people with sleep apnea to remain on their sides while sleeping. This reduces chances of snoring. While sleeping on a CPAP pillow, the person’s head remains slightly elevated which in turn helps to keep the airways clear from barriers. The pillow also supports the spine and neck adequately and keeps them aligned better which helps to reduce other problems of sleep apnea.

Apart from these CPAP accessories, there are various other accessories such as CPAP mask cleaners, wipes and traveling kit (carry bags) which are supplied by leading brands producing CPAP devices.

CPAP clinic provides a wide range CPAP devices including CPAP accessories in Toronto. Products available at our store are from top and reputed brands like KEGO, Philips Respironics, Fisher & Paykel Health care , Res Med , Citrus II and Covidien. Our on line store features all popular CPAP accessories in Toronto.

Full-face CPAP masks are integral part of the CPAP machine used by people diagnosed with sleep apnea. The mask serves as the interface between the person and the CPAP machine. The pressure generated from the machine pushes the air through the nostrils to the respiratory system of the person. Full-face masks are common in Canada. They have the triangular shape that comfortably sits on the face of the user. A regular CPAP mask user needs to replace the mask parts periodically to ensure its performance efficiency. Full-face CPAP mask replacement parts are separately available at leading CPAP vendors.

CPAP Clinic is one of the leading CPAP equipment suppliers in Toronto. We supply a wide variety of CPAP/APAP machines and replacement parts like full-face CPAP mask replacement parts, nasal pillows replacement parts, nasal mask replacement parts. Important full-face CPAP mask replacement parts include headgear, headgear clips, mask cushion, cheek pads, pad support, cross tube, bridge, and a tubing system.

Headgear clips are used to adjust the headgear and make it perfectly fit on the head. The mask cushion, another replaceable part, provides maximum comfort to the wearer and makes the mask sit firmly. It also creates a gentle seal on the patient’s face and also prevents sores and rashes occurring due to direct contact of the mask with the face. Adjustable cushions are also available.
Cheek pads are one of the popular full-face CPAP mask replacement parts available in CPAP machine stores. The cheek pads are important because they place the cheek perfectly on the mask. Another mask replacement part is the tubing system. It is made of lightweight material that enables smooth airflow through it. The tube is made of good quality materials with good resistance to heat and chemicals.

Next important full-face CPAP mask replacement parts are CPAP filters. The filters need to be replaced periodically to avoid contamination and prevent blockage of air. Filters may be disposable and non-disposable. After the prescribed period, you should replace the filters. The filters may get damaged early if the machine is operated in hostile conditions where there is a lot of dust and moisture, so you need to replace them earlier than the prescribed period.

CPAP Clinic offers full-face CPAP mask replacement parts from leading suppliers like Philips Respironics, Fisher & Paykel, Covidien, ResMed, and Citrus II. Apart from full-face masks, we also supply nasal pillows, nasal masks and the entire replacement parts associated with each of the CPAP equipment from all these vendors.

CPAP Nasal masks are breathing devices used for relieving sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a chronic health issue. It causes choking or gasping, loud snoring, sudden awakenings during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common type of sleep apnea. OSA results in breath obstruction, which stops the airflow in the nose and mouth. A common cause of OSA is overweight which results in blocking of airways. Large tonsils and nasal congestion also result in sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea (CSA) is not as common as OSA. The delay in passing the signals to central nervous system results in CSA. It may also be caused due to injury involving the brain stem.

The CPAP nasal masks help eliminate OSA. OSA causes the person to miss one or more breaths of air. This may occur repeatedly during the night causing breathlessness during sleep. CPAP nasal masks prevent the blocking of airways by increasing the air pressure in the nose and throat. Nasal masks deliver the pressurized air that prevents sleep apnea from occurring. This mask also improves cardiovascular effects and reduces the symptoms of heart failure.

Sleep apnea masks are available in a variety of forms and sizes. The nasal mask is attached to a tube that is connected to the CPAP machine. The mask is made to be comfortable and provide a proper seal for the airflow. The comfortGel nasal masks have new robust design. This provides higher levels of comfort to people suffering from sleep apnea.

A CPAP nasal mask covers the nose and holds it securely in the place with straps or headbands. There are masks, which also cover the entire face. The nose cushion device fits under the wearer’s nostrils. There are nasal prongs, which have plastic extension to help them fit inside the nostrils. Oral nasal CPAP masks deliver the pressured air to the mouth rather than the nose. CPAP nasal masks are the most commonly used breathing devices by sleep apnea patients.

CPAP nasal masks have to be chosen carefully. If they don’t fit comfortably on your face, it may result in air leakage. The facial hair also may result in air leaking. The nasal masks are designed to ensure maximum comfort to sleep apnea patients so that they sleep without disturbance.

There are nasal pillow masks available in the market, which makes it easier for the patients to sleep on their side or stomach. There are no straps against the cheeks, so they will suit people with facial hair. They are suitable for faces of any size and shape. While choosing a nasal CPAP mask select the right size so that it will fit perfect on your face.

At CPAP Clinic, you can get the latest CPAP nasal masks from leading manufacturers with personalized designs to suit your face and add maximum comfort. These masks are easy to handle and enable you to regain your lost sleep during the night.

Sleep apnea is a disruption of breathing while sleeping. Sleep apnea is called a deceiving sleep disorder because the person suffering from this disease does not realize they are suffering from it! Usually, it’s the bed partner who notices the disorder first. If left untreated, sleep apnea can be life threatening. There are several sleep apnea treatment methods available today. There are no medications available to treat sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea occurs due to a variety of reasons. Primary causes and risk factors of sleep apnea include obesity, large sized adenoid or tonsils, nasal congestion, or other distinctive physical attributes that block the nasal passage and airways. Warnings and symptoms of sleep apnea include frequent silences during sleep, choking or gasping during sleep to get air into the lungs, loud snoring, sudden awakenings, and daytime sleepiness. Frequent silences occur during sleep due to breaks in breathing.

The sleep apnea disturbs the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. This stimulates the brain to restart the breathing process, making you wake up in your sleep periodically. These waking episodes are necessary to restart breathing and to save your life. This disrupts your sleep and cause daytime exhaustion.

Sleep apnea treatment methods include lifestyle changes, mouthpieces, breathing devices and in rare cases, surgery. It is good to consult a doctor to identity the sleep apnea treatment options suitable for you. For mild sleep apnea, lifestyle changes and/or mouthpieces can be the best solution. People having moderate sleep apnea may need surgery or breathing devices.

The mouthpieces used in sleep apnea treatment help in keeping your airways opened while sleeping by adjusting your lower jaw and the tongue. The breathing device allows the air to gently blow into your throat. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is a breathing device used for sleep apnea treatment in adult.

Surgery is performed to increase the size of the airways in your mouth. The tonsils, adenoids are removed through the surgery, or the jaw is reconstructed to enlarge the upper airway. These sleep apnea treatments help you restore regular breathing during the sleep and also relieve snoring and daytime sleepiness.

Some of the sleep apnea treatments can be practiced at home. For example, if your sleep apnea is caused due to obesity, you should start reducing your weight. Losing even 10 percent of your weight will help in reducing sleep apnea and reduce the stress at night. You should also refrain from consuming alcohols, tobacco and sedatives. Additionally, you should follow a regular sleeping regime that gives you sufficient sleep in a healthy environment. Elevating the head of your bed to 4-6 inches can alleviate snoring and make breathing easier. There are nasal dilators available in the medical shops. Sprays like saline nasal spray are also useful.

CPAP Clinic in Toronto offers the best sleep apnea treatment methods that you can practice at home. The company supplies all types of CPAP equipments like CPAP Machines, Auto-PAPs and CPAP mask from leading manufacturers. For more information, contact us at:
