Features of EasyLife Nasal Mask System

EasyLife was developed to make fitting patients practically automatic. The patented Auto Seal technology allows the mask to self-adjust. It’s as simple as that. Almost instantly, you can establish an effective, comfortable fit for virtually any patient. With EasyLife, success is practically automatic.

Easy from the start
Thanks to the unique dual-cushion design and Auto Seal technology, fitting a wide variety of patients is a snap. The soft inner cushion readily adapts to facial contours to create an instant and self-adjusting seal, nearly eliminating the need for nose bridge and forehead pad adjustments. The outer cushion provides support, allowing the mask to rest lightly on the patient’s face, eliminating the need to over-tighten the headgear to achieve a suitable seal. The headgear features headgear stops for easier fitting and adjustment, which may result in a true first-time fit and fewer callbacks due to sealing issues.

Easy for the long-run
Not only does EasyLife adapt to your patients, your patients will embrace EasyLife. In addition to providing a premium seal, this revolutionary mask design is comfortable, quiet, and light weight. And with a grand total of just four parts (mask frame, headgear, outer support cushion, and inner seal cushion), it couldn’t be simpler for patients to care for. Performance, comfort, and ease of use. It all adds up to increased compliance. What more could you ask for?

Easy for your business
Any time you can fit a patient in less time with less effort and yet enjoy more success, it’s a winning scenario for your business. EasyLife may reduce the number of callbacks, while helping to increase patient satisfaction. Plus, thanks to its simple design with fewer components, inventory is simplified as well. EasyLife is the ultimate fitting experience … and that’s fitting for your business.

EasyLife Frequently Asked Questions

What is the EasyLife?
The EasyLife is a nasal mask that is used to deliver positive airway pressure (PAP) in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for patients weighing more than 66 pounds. It is an alternative to traditional nasal masks with its dual-cushion design and patented Auto Seal technology.

How many sizes does it have?
The EasyLife mask comes complete with a cushion and headgear.  It is available in four sizes—small, medium, medium wide, and large.

How does it work?
With its patented Auto Seal technology, the EasyLife nasal mask nearly eliminates the need for manual mask adjustments. Its innovative, lightweight design features a unique dual-cushion construction – the inner cushion creates an instant, self-adjusting seal, while the outer cushion provides comfortable support. The only manual steps necessary are intuitive headgear adjustments, making fitting as easy as possible.

How does the EasyLife compare to other nasal mask products?
Unlike most nasal mask products that use a forehead pad and arm, the EasyLife relies on its dual-cushion design to provide a soft foundation for the seal and support to virtually eliminate manual adjustments.

Are there any limitations to using the EasyLife?
No, the EasyLife can be used with all Philips Respironics devices, including REMstar Systems with A-Flex, C-Flex, BiPAP Pro Systems with Bi-Flex, and REMstar Auto-CPAP systems.

What information comes with the EasyLife?
The EasyLife nasal mask includes a pictorial quick fitting guide and an instruction manual.  Inserted in the instruction manual are a registration card, a replacement reminder card, and a reminder sticker that can help track and manage the mask replacement cycle.

What are the numbers on the top of the EasyLife mask?
The numbers that appear on the top of the EasyLife mask indicate the date of manufacture (YYMMDD) and represent the lot number. These numbers are used to track the product and allow for detailed user registration.

Attaching/removing the cushion

How do I attach the EasyLife cushions?
Place the blue flap of the inner seal cushion on the mask frame.  Make sure that the blue flap completely covers the lip on the mask frame. If the lip is not completely covered, the mask may leak once assembled.

Place the outer support cushion with tabs facing downward, around the inner seal cushion. Press gently until all three sides click into the mask frame. Gently tug on the cushions to make sure they are securely in place.

Gently press the forehead pad into the forehead pad slot in the mask frame.

How do I remove the EasyLife cushions?
Pull outward and upward on the blue attachment tabs on each side of the outer support cushion until this cushion separates from the mask frame.  Remove the outer support cushion.  Remove the inner seal cushion, which has a blue flap.

Tubing management

Can I use standard CPAP tubing with the EasyLife?
Yes, the interface is designed to work with standard 6-foot CPAP tubing.  A lighter-weight option is also available with our Performance Tubing (PN 1032907).  Traditional tubing can sometimes pull on the mask, especially if the tubing falls off of the bed and the weight of the tubing pulls on the mask. Performance Tubing is 20% lighter than traditional tubing and is many times more flexible.  It provides a more forgiving connection to the device, since it is less likely to apply pull or torque to the mask and disrupt the seal.

Can I direct the tubing over my head?
Yes.  The swivel elbow located on the front of the interface can rotate to permit the tubing to be directed straight down, to the side, or over the head.  The tubing is flexible enough to position it in whatever manner best fits sleeping preferences.

Cleaning

How should I clean the EasyLife?
The user’s manual included with the EasyLife contains detailed cleaning instructions. For single patient use, the mask and CPAP tubing should be cleaned daily. The headgear should be cleaned weekly, or as needed. The headgear does not need to be removed for daily cleaning. Hand wash in warm water with a mild liquid dish washing detergent. Do not use bleach, alcohol, or cleaning solutions containing alcohol. Do not use cleaners containing conditioners or moisturizers.  Rinse thoroughly. Air dry completely before use.  Inspect all parts for damage or wear; replace if necessary.

Additional questions

How often should I replace my mask?
With proper care, a mask should last several months.  If you notice any wear and tear, contact your provider to see if it can be replaced. Remember, depending on your insurance coverage, you can generally get a replacement mask every 3 to 6 months. You may have a deductible. Please check with your insurance carrier for details.

Does the EasyLife have a warranty?
Yes, Philips Respironics warrants its masks against defects in material or workmanship for 90 days. Work with your homecare provider if you have a warranty issue.

Can you buy the headgear separately or the mask without headgear? Sometimes my insurance doesn't allow me to get replacements of the headgear when it is time for a new mask.
Yes, the headgear can be purchased separately. The EasyLife mask also can be purchased without headgear.

I work in a sleep lab.  Is the EasyLife approved for multiple-patient use, reuse?
Yes, we have tested a number of disinfecting agents and published them in the EasyLife Cleaning and Disinfection Guide.  Please contact your Philips Respironics sleep consultant for a copy.

I'm allergic to latex.  Does the EasyLife contain any latex?
There is no latex in any Philips Respironics mask or packaging.

Service & Support

EasyLife Mask Care

Cleaning your EasyLife mask regularly is a very important part of mask maintenance. The cushions, nasal interface and tubing should be cleaned daily. The headgear and chin support band should be cleaned weekly. It is not necessary to disconnect the headgear and support band for daily use and cleaning.

To keep your EasyLife clean, follow these three easy steps.

  1. Hand wash the mask in warm water with a mild soap or dishwashing detergent. Do not use soap with moisturizers or conditioners. Do not use bleach, alcohol, or cleaning solutions containing alcohol.
  2. Rinse the mask thoroughly. Pat with a paper towel and air dry completely before use.
  3. Inspect all parts for damage or wear. Replace the mask if the cushion becomes hardened or if any parts become damaged.

As an informed healthcare consumer, you should be aware of the mask replacement benefits under your healthcare plan. Mask replacement is based on medical need as determined by your insurance provider.

The mask cushion or pillows should be washed daily with hot soapy water and left for air-dry. The coarse black filters should be washed twice a week under hot running water (no soap). The humidifier chamber should be drained and washed at least once a week with hot soapy water or dishwasher. The air tubing can be washed with hot water (no soap) and left to air dry. CAUTION: DO NOT clean any parts of the CPAP system with alcohol or solutions that contain alcohol.
