Understanding your sleep health, sleep apnea and CPAP therapy

Ease Depression with the Right Sleep Apnea Therapy

Sometimes, the loneliness and isolation of depression may feel overwhelming.

What many people don’t realize is that depression and other mental health issues often stem from undiagnosed health conditions, such as obstructive sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea is characterized by stop-starts in breathing during the night, as well as intermittent, very loud snoring.

During apnea episodes, which recur over and over again during the sleeping hours, the brain and body are deprived of vital oxygen.

This state of oxygen deprivation triggers some pretty harsh side effects, including bouts of depression that may be mild, moderate or severe in scope.

If you’re feeling weary every day, and you find yourself prone to dark thoughts, fits of temper, tears, and more, you should look at your sleep habits and consider the fact that a sleep disorder, such as obstructive sleep apnea, is playing a role in your deteriorating state of mind.

Other Side Effects of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Other common side effects of depression include heart problems, high blood pressure, morning headaches, weight gain, and fatigue. The best way to find out whether or not obstructive sleep apnea is causing your depressive symptoms is to visit your family physician.

By performing special tests known as sleep studies, your doctor will be able to confirm or exclude the presence of OSA.

If you do discover that you have obstructive sleep apnea, treating your sleep disorder with the right CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine may unlock better mental health by giving you the support that you need to finally get healthy, refreshing rest.

By correcting your breathing problems all night long, a CPAP machine stops sleep apnea in its tracks before it can do any more damage.

What You Need to Know about CPAP Machines

CPAP machines are used alongside CPAP nasal masks (also known as CPAP nasal pillows), and they are the number one, doctor-recommended treatment for sleep apnea.

Often, these machines are very affordable, since they may be covered by your medical insurance.

Once you’ve found the right make and model and chosen the perfect CPAP mask, you’ll be ready to begin your new therapy.

This machine will give you the ability to breathe like a person who doesn’t suffer from obstructive sleep apnea. Instead of waking up tired and out of sorts, you’ll feel alive, youthful, and hopeful.

The positive mindset brought about by effective CPAP therapy changes lives for the better, so it’s really very powerful. And the right CPAP machine has the capacity to ease depression and to stop it from coming back.

Of course, some forms of depression have other root causes; that’s why visiting your doctor is so important. However, many people do overlook the possibility that an underlying sleep disorder condition is wreaking havoc with their moods and their emotional well-being.

Quite often, solving sleep apnea with a CPAP machine is the best way to enjoy more stable, happy moods, and the results happen very quickly.
