CPAP Replacement Parts: Available in Toronto!

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP machines are used to treat sleep apnea in adults. They help in restoring regular breathing during sleep and also help to get rid of snoring and daytime sleepiness.

The CPAP Machine delivers a stream of compressed air via a hose to the CPAP mask so that the patient is able to breathe in an unobstructed manner. It is the air pressure and not merely the movement of the air that prevents sleep apneas in CPAP therapy. When the machine is turned on, the air flow starts flowing through the mask. Once the mask is fitted on the head or face, the air stops flowing and only the air pressure helps to restore normal breathing pattern in the patient.

Being a significant medical device, CPAP machines are ergonomically designed and long lasting. However, care should be taken to replace the parts and/or accessories from time to time. This helps them to effectively provide the therapy and avoid any kind of discomfort to the user. In chronic sleep apnea cases, the CPAP devices may be subject to prolonged use and the user may also need to carry them along while traveling. Therefore, it is imperative to replace the parts periodically.

If you have an uncomfortable or ill fitting CPAP mask, it can cause lots of problems like nasal congestion, dry mouth and sores. There are various kinds of CPAP masks available in the market, such as Nasal Masks, Nasal Pillow Masks, Full face masks, Oral Masks and Hybrid Masks. As per the medicare guidelines, the masks should be replaced 4 times a year. This is because a loose or ill fitting mask would not help in the therapy properly.

Air tubes in the CPAP machines, that get visibly dirty or torn out must be replaced. These need to be replaced on a monthly basis. Chin Strap Pads act as cushions and protect the face from inconvenience and pain caused due to prolonged use of CPAP masks. These should therefore be comfortable enough and replaced periodically as per convenience. The headgear of the CPAP mask must also be replaced after every 6 months. It is advisable to change or clean the CPAP filters to keep them hygienic and flawless. Basically there are two types of filters; disposable filters which should be replaced on a regular basis and non-disposable filters, (also known as pollen filters) which can be washed and reused. There are separate CPAP mask accessories designed for each mask type and model.
