CPAP accessories require regular replacement as long term use may lead to wear and tear. Many CPAP users don't realize that many supplies associated with sleep therapy are disposable. Masks, air tubes, filters and headgear have a limited life span and must be replaced from time to time. CPAP devices are portable but care should be taken to ensure that sufficient replacement parts are always available to help the machine function in a normal way at any time. CPAP masks get loose after continual use and ill fitting masks cause obvious problems in the therapy. The mask should therefore be replaced after every 3 months. CPAP headgear helps to connect the mask securely to the head and the frequency of replacement should be between 3 to 6 months. Air tubes attaching to the CPAP machines, that get visibly dirty or torn out must also be replaced once every six months.

Also, it is necessary to change or clean the CPAP filters to keep them hygienic and flawless. Basically there are two types of filters - disposable filters which should be replaced on a regular basis and non-disposable filters, (also known as pollen filters) which can be washed and reused. There are separate CPAP mask accessories designed for each mask type and model.

I was happy to be able to buy just the cushion for the mask, although I did feel it was very expensive at $75. It seems to have increased to more than double in the past year. However, it was shipped promptly and received within three days and there were no shipping charges. I hope we will continue to be able to buy parts for the mask and hope they will not increase anymore in price. It is cheaper to buy a complete mask, but if you have a few masks on hand that only need one or two parts it does not make sense to throw them out.

Very disappointed with the quality of the Phillips Wisp mask frame and hose assembly. Seven to ten days after the 90 warranty the cloth-covered mask frame disintegrated on one side of the mask. I repaired the break with tape only to have the plastic clips on the hose cease to remain connected to the mask (more tape). I made the mistake of not contacting VitalAire immediately, and now have no recourse but to purchase new equipment. "Great warranty" folks on a cheaply made but expensive product.
